Chocobo at Camp John Hay

We went on a recent Baguio trip with Chocobo. Baguio has started to open their tourism to visitors that comply with their health and safety protocols (such as requirement for complete vaccination and registering to their visitor database). One of the places we’ve visited is Camp John Hay, which Chocobo enjoyed.

Paseo de Sta Rosa

Paseo de Sta Rosa is one of the places Chocobo frequently visits. The wide green spaces around this area are friendly to pets, including roosters.

Bulacan Roadtrip 2019

We went to Bulacan and dropped by SM Marilao. Chocobo, our rooster pet, was allowed to enter the mall, thus, we were able to enjoy the place and take a photo with him beside the Christmas tree.

Two-Way Radio Landmark in Daet

Fellow amateur radio enthusiasts find this landmark very fascinating, featuring a two-way radio. It is located near the Daet-Basud boundary, along the Pan-Philippine Highway (do not confuse it with the new highway—Quirino Highway—which does not pass through Daet). The landmark was built by Kabalikat Civicom 139 Daet Chapter.

In case you wish to visit the landmark on your next DU4 visit, I’ve had it located in Google maps.

April 2019 Daet
I first noticed this landmark in the 90s, when we moved to Bicol

Observing the March 2019 Super Moon

Supermoon with Chocobo
Observing the super moon with our pet rooster

We’ve observed last night’s super moon using a 4-inch f/9 telescope. While it is true that the moon will be closer to Earth during a super moon, the difference in size and brightness compared to a non-super moon is so small and so subtle that it will be very difficult to detect such an almost negligible difference, even for amateur astronomers who regularly observe the moon, and use astronomical equipment such as a telescope.

Aguinaldo Shrine and Digman Halo-halo

We’ve visited the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite. I’ve confirmed two of the things I’ve read about it in history books: (1) that the shrine’s tower can be seen from a few kilometers away—which means that any approaching party could be easily spotted, and (2) the shrine is surrounded by bodies of water (sea and river networks), which probably served as natural barriers to prevent uninvited guests. We did not go inside since we are far more interested in learning about the shrine’s strategic and defensive location.

We also tried out the Digman halo-halo in Bacoor, Cavite. Digman is a narrow street with shops serving the famous halo-halo. Note that parking is really difficult, even during off peak season. All of the shops claim to be “the original”, but which of them is the real one? Perhaps one day we’ll find out. For now, we’ll just let our pet rooster Chocobo enjoy the halo-halo :)
