Installing an LTO RFID Sticker

We have finally received the registration plate of our EcoSport. LTO-issued plates come with a pair of stickers, one of which has an embedded RFID tag. The stickers must be installed on the windshield, behind the rear view mirror (installing one sticker on top of the other). In this video, I have shown how I installed the sticker set (one transparent and one with the RFID tag) in an EcoSport.

    • Since RFID tags work using radio waves, you can put it on any non-conductive/non-metallic surface anywhere in the car and it will still work. However, LTO requires you to put it in a specific place—behind the rear view mirror. I think in the future they will setup a reader for the tags, and that reader will be aimed at the top center of the windshield. Remember also that the tag carries a QR code which can be read by a camera. This is a back up system that will be used to identify the vehicle if the RFID fails. Putting the ID tag elsewhere may cause unnecessary problems to the back up QR code camera later on (but not much if you just shift it a bit as I am sure the QR code camera can still pick it up).
